The Chief officer´s Cabin

The Chief officer is the second in command on board.
The Chief officer is also referred to as chief mate. He or she is the one who sails the ship when the captain is resting.

The Chief officer is an officer and navigator who has knowledge of navigation and can steer the ship safely along the shipping lanes.

The Chief officer is often responsible for the ship’s cargo and is in charge of work on deck.

On board the MT Oksøy the Chief officer was in charge of work with lighthouses and beacons: filling oil or gas, repair work and adjusting the light colour sectors and flashes. The Chief officer had a workshop on board, known as the mate’s shop.

The Chief officer had a spacious cabin with easy access to the bridge.
