In the 1960s all the building at Lindesnes had been faced with asbestos plates to save on maintenance costs.
This was neither environmentally friendly nor pleasing to look at. Coopera- tion with the County Conservation Officer, however, provided funds for job-creation programmes in rehabilitation.This allowed for the removal of the asbestos and restoration of the buildings to their former appearance. In 1987 The foghorn is taken out of ordinary use.
