1915-1920: Modernization

During the First World War Lindesnes finally got its turn.A new cast-iron tower was built in 1915. The lens from 1854 was dismounted and moved over, but the old oil lamp was replaced by a vapourised kerosene mantle burner produced in England.

Construction work then started on a machinery house to make room for
a new foghorn, which meant that the assistant keeper’s house was also enlarged so that the station could house: one lighthouse keeper with family, two assistant keepers with their families and a substitute keeper.
