The Danish bishop Erik Pontoppidan had to put into a port of refuge at the Naze on one of his journeys.Afterwards he described the shipping activity in these waters:
“Those Ships of all Nations desiring to sail to or from the Baltic-Sea and to avoid the dangerous Jutlandian Reef must pass by Lindesnes, which is often done by some Hundreds of vessels each Day.”
