The Pig

“Grisen” was the name of the workboat.
Originally, the ship had two workboats called “Grisen”. They were used to carry the workers and the oil or gascontainers out to the automated lighthouses. Getting the work done would have been extremely difficult without them, in order to get ashore at the various lighthouses and beacons, the workboats had to be used.

When going ashore, the boat was steered by a seaman who was also an “engine attendant”. He was in charge of the workboat.

Usually, it was the first officer who was in charge of work on the lights and beacons. He was responsible for maintenance and repairs.

“Grisen” had an oiltank onboard which was filled with paraffin before sailing ashore. The boat’s engine was used to operate a pump which pumped oil up to the lighthouse’s oil tanks.
